Have you heard this phrase a lot lately? Your "true self"? Do you know what it means? Have an idea? I believe what is being alluded to when this phrase is used is our unfiltered, unmodified self. Now, what does that mean? Every experience in life, especially the painful ones, comes not only with lessons learned but also with filters created and modifications implemented. That time you were "too much" for others may have caused you to create a filter that diluted your energy to an acceptable level and/or implement behavioral adjustments in order to be fully accepted by your community. Yes, on paper, we all know that if you have to adjust yourself to fit into a room, those people in that room and that room itself are not your people or place. But shrinking our light to suit the acceptable levels of those around us is a common, almost subconscious practice in society. That, or it goes to the other extreme, and there is no respect for the harmony of energy in a space. Being in community requires generosity and balance of energy. Harmony of energy. This is way different than correcting yourself because you don't fit. It's adjusting your level to the acoustics of the room.

At it's core, the true, unfiltered self is your origin self. The origin self, in my experience and opinion is creative, intuitive, generous, grateful, respectful, humble and confident. The unfiltered self is clear.

When you listen deeply, you may hear the quiet whisper, a gentle call that nudges us toward something deeper, something more authentic. That yearning to peel back the layers and meet the person who has been waiting patiently beneath the noise? The journey to your true self is not a race but a tender unfolding—a dance between curiosity and courage. It invites you to step softly into your own story, to listen with open ears and an open heart.

Imagine walking through a forest at dawn, the mist curling around ancient trees, the air thick with possibility. This is the path to self-awareness—a journey that asks you to slow down, to notice the subtle shifts within, and to embrace the beauty of becoming. Being still with and truly knowing your "true self". Are you ready to take that first step?

The Path to Self-Awareness: A Gentle Awakening

Self-awareness is your flashlight that lights your way through the shadows of doubt and confusion. It is the art of tuning in to your thoughts, feelings, and desires without judgment. When you cultivate this awareness, you begin to see yourself clearly—your strengths, your vulnerabilities, and the unique spark that makes you who you are. What are your modifications? What are your filters? What is you?

How do you begin? Start by asking yourself simple questions:

  • What emotions am I feeling right now?

  • What thoughts keep returning to me?

  • When do I feel most alive and connected?

These questions are like keys unlocking hidden doors. Journaling your answers can be a powerful tool. Write without censoring, allowing your inner voice to flow freely. Over time, patterns emerge, revealing truths that were once buried beneath layers of distraction.

Practical tip: Set aside five minutes each morning to check in with yourself. Breathe deeply, close your eyes, and ask, "What do I need to know about myself today?" This small ritual can anchor you in presence and clarity.

Embracing Change: The Courage to Transform

Transformation is not always comfortable. It asks you to shed old skins and step into the unknown. But within this discomfort lies immense growth. Think of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly—there is a struggle, yes, but also a magnificent emergence.

What parts of yourself are ready to evolve? Perhaps it’s a limiting belief, a fear, or a habit that no longer serves you. Naming these is the first step toward liberation. Then, gently challenge them. Replace "I can't" with "I am learning." Swap "I am not enough" with "I am whole and worthy."

Change also requires patience. Growth is rarely linear. There will be days of doubt and moments when the old ways beckon like familiar shadows. When this happens, remind yourself that every step, even the small or backward ones, is part of the dance.

Actionable advice: Create a vision board that reflects your aspirations and the qualities you wish to embody. Place it somewhere visible to inspire daily commitment to your transformation.

The Power of Connection: Finding Your Inner Compass

In the quiet moments, when the world slows down, you can hear the soft murmur of your intuition. This inner compass guides you toward choices that align with your true self. But how do you tune in to this subtle voice?

Begin by cultivating stillness. Meditation, mindful breathing, or simply sitting in nature can help you quiet the external noise. Notice the sensations in your body—sometimes intuition speaks through a flutter in the chest, a gentle nudge in the gut, or a calm certainty in the mind.

Surround yourself with people who honor your journey. Authentic connection fuels your growth and reflects back your light. Share your thoughts and dreams with trusted friends or mentors who encourage your unfolding.

Remember: Your intuition is a sacred guide. Trust it, even when the path ahead is unclear.

Cultivating Creativity: The Language of the Soul

Creativity is the language your soul speaks when words fall short. It is a sacred expression of your inner world, a bridge between your heart and the universe. Whether through painting, writing, music, or movement, creative acts invite you to explore and reveal your authentic self.

Have you noticed how children create without hesitation? They dive in with abandon, unafraid of mistakes or judgment. Reclaim that freedom. Allow yourself to play, to experiment, to make a mess. Creativity is not about perfection; it is about presence.

Try this: Set a timer for ten minutes and write or draw whatever comes to mind. No rules, no editing. Let your intuition guide your hand. You might be surprised at the insights that emerge.

Tip: Keep a creativity journal. Record your ideas, dreams, and inspirations. Over time, this becomes a treasure trove of your evolving self.

Walking the Path with Compassion and Grace

As you journey inward, remember to be gentle with yourself. Self-awareness and transformation are acts of love, not judgment. When you stumble or feel lost, offer yourself the same kindness you would give a dear friend.

Practice self-compassion by acknowledging your efforts and celebrating small victories. When negative self-talk arises, pause and reframe it with affirmations like:

  • I am enough just as I am.

  • I am worthy of love and growth.

  • Every step I take is meaningful.

This kindness creates a fertile ground for your true self to bloom. It invites healing and opens the door to deeper connection with yourself and others.

Encouragement: Each day, find one thing you appreciate about yourself. Speak it aloud. Let it echo in your heart.

Your Invitation to Begin

The path to your true self is a sacred journey filled with wonder, challenge, and profound beauty. It is a path that invites you to awaken, to transform, and to create a life that resonates with your deepest truth.

If you feel called to explore this journey more deeply, consider embracing the practice of self-discovery. It is a powerful way to unlock your intuition and creativity, guiding you toward significant life shifts and inspiring growth from within.

Step forward with an open heart. The path awaits you.
