The Power of Connection

How amazing would it be if we all connected on a soul level? Imagine eliminating the confusion and misunderstandings that often arise from words, overthinking, and the ego's relentless need to be right.

The polarization and separation that pervades our society, especially here in the US, leaves me pondering how we can ever move past this divisiveness. Can we truly get along again? Did we ever? Can we at all?

This topic of internal and external turmoil has me reflecting not only on a macro level but also on a micro one. If connection is what we seek—what I seek as a community—if peace and kindness are what I crave, how does that work? What does it look like? How can we get there? Is it even possible?

The Branding of Society

Here's the deal: we are living in a branded society. At its core, what is branding? It is separation. It is the sculpting of a specific image to sell or market something for a specific reason. To stand out, you must define how you are different. Why do you matter? Why are you better?

I'm not saying this is a new phenomenon. I'm sure there were goat herders in 200 B.C. who dressed and acted a certain way to promote themselves, showcasing their worthiness compared to neighboring herders. What is new, however, is the relentless branding and marketing that bombard us daily. From product brands to commercials and influencers, the focus is on separation. The emphasis is on being right, better, and different.

We are so filled with opinions now that we have little room for facts or meaningful discussion. Bold lines are drawn in the sand regarding identity, right and wrong. If someone’s views don’t align with yours, the walls grow thicker, and the boundaries become more impenetrable.

The Essence of Connection

Here’s how I perceive it: in an intuitive reading, when I look at a soul, I see pure light, pure love. It is a small part of that larger ball of light and love. Call it what you will—God, the universe, source—but at its core, the feeling of love is connection, not separation. There is no need for marketing or standing out; it’s about the energy of lifting each other up. It’s about teamwork, not competition.

So, if we aren’t all walking around reading each other intuitively, what’s the next best and easiest access point to connection, conversation, love, peace, and growth?

Staying Curious

I have a saying: "Stay curious, play!" To me, this means keep growing and exploring joy. When we are curious, our boundaries soften. Our ego takes a back seat. It doesn’t matter if we are right because that’s not the point. We are learning—about each other, about new subjects, exploring, and connecting.

You can justify anything and claim to be "right." I’m sure even Hitler justified that he was "right." But in the grand scheme, being right means nothing. Curiosity keeps us in a growth mindset. It opens us to discussion and possibility. Being right, on the other hand, shuts the door on connection. It asserts, “I’ve made up my mind, and I’m not changing it. I’m different (better) than you.”

In a world where we can’t agree on facts, perhaps we can agree to remain curious. Then maybe, just maybe, we will learn something. Perhaps we will release the gridlock of opinions and start to find a connection. And maybe, just maybe, we can discover some peace.

Reflecting on Curiosity

What and how will you be curious about today?
