Curious vs Right

How amazing would it be if we all connected on a soul level? Eliminate the confusion and misunderstandings that get in the way with words, overthinking, and the ego's need to be right.

The polarization and separation that is pervasive here in the US and around the world right now has me wondering how we can ever move past the divisiveness. Can and will we ever get along again? Did we ever? Can we at all?

This topic of internal and external turmoil had me thinking not only in terms of macro, but micro as well. If connection is what we seek, what I seek as a community, if peace and kindness are what I crave cultivation of - how does that work? How does that look? How can we get there? Is it even possible?

Here's the deal, we are living in a branded society. What is branding at its core? Separation. It is the sculpting of a specific image to sell or market a specific thing, for a specific reason. In order to stand out you must define how you are different. Why you matter. Why you are different. Why you are better. I'm not saying this isn't how it's always been. I'm sure there have been goat herders in 200 B.C. who dressed and acted a certain way to promote themselves and show off in town that they were more worthy than the neighboring goat herder. What I'm trying to say is - it's not new, but what is, is the consistent branding and marketing in our faces, always trying to sell us something from product brands, commercials, to influencers. The focus is on separation. The focus on being right, better, different.

We are all so filled up with opinions now that we have no room for facts or discussion. Bold lines are drawn in the sand on identity, right and wrong, and if they don't align with your values, then the walls get thicker, the boundaries more impenetrable.

Here's how I look at it: in an intuitive reading, when I look at a soul, it's pure light, pure love. It is a small part of that bigger ball of light/love. Call it whatever you like, god, universe, source, but at its core, the feeling of love is connection. Not separation. There is no need for marketing and standing out - it's the energy of lifting each other up. It's the energy of teamwork, not competition.

So if we aren't all walking around reading each other intuitively - what's the next best and easiest access point to connection - to conversation - to love and peace and growth?

I have a saying, "Stay curious, play!" What that means to me is keep growing and keep exploring joy. When we are curious, our boundaries are soft. Our ego takes a back seat. It doesn't matter if we are right? Because that's not the point. We are learning. We are learning about each other, a new subject, we are exploring, and we are connecting.

You can justify anything and be "right". I'm sure Hitler justified that he was "right." Right means nothing. Curiosity keeps us in a growth mindset. It keeps us open to discussion and possibility. Being right shuts the door on a connection. It says I've made up my mind and I'm not changing it. I'm different (better) than you.

If in a world where we can't agree on facts, maybe we can agree to remain curious. Then maybe, just maybe, we will learn something. Maybe, just maybe, we will release the gridlock of opinions and start to find a connection. And maybe, just maybe, we can find some peace.

What and how will you be curious about today?
